Liverpool have been linked Curitlba's 19 year-old striker Keirrison, the latest Brazilian wonderkid to be tagged 'the new Ronaldinho'.

Gerrard with the penalty
TONY ADAMS took more than his fair share of smacks to the head during his days governing the Arsenal defence. He did not expect to celebrate his first game as Pompey chief by getting a sock in the kisser off his own team. Yet that is exactly how it went at Anfield last night, as Papa Bouba Diop’s rush of blood to the head — or should that be hands — kept Liverpool riding high on top of the table.
Just 15 minutes remained before Adams could celebrate his top-flight managerial debut by nicking a point off the Premier League pacesetters. But then amazingly, inexplicably, Diop rose above Sami Hyypia to meet a Fabio Aurelio corner — and punched the ball away in volleyball fashion.
Referee Steve Tanner was spot- on in pointing to the spot, and Steven Gerrard ended what was threatening to become a night of real frustration by burying the penalty in the corner. It was cruel luck on Adams, who up to that point was bang on course to mark his first game in charge with a memorable — if somewhat fortunate — draw. Never mind, Tony, it will not always be as tough as this. Like entertaining Wigan Athletic this weekend, for instance.
Adams had set his stall out by leaving top scorer Jermaine Defoe on the bench, trying to cut off Liverpool’s supply line by packing the midfield. Great in theory. Yet in practice the Reds cut through them at will and it was only the home side’s insistence in constantly trying to find a glory ball, and walk it in, that kept Pompey in it. The leaders should really have been in front inside a minute, when Dirk Kuyt skied a chance at the far post from Gerrard’s corner.
And the Dutchman was again cursing his luck when the impressive Alvaro Arbeloa and Jermaine Pennant combined down the right, and Kuyt brought a great save from David James, who pushed his low shot against a post. If that was unfortunate, the next missed opening was a real finger-pointer, Lucas popping up totally unmarked but heading Aurelio’s corner over the top. Pompey had not left Anfield as victors for 57 years and never seriously threatened to end that dismal sequence.
Ryan Babel had the beating of Noe Pamarot down the Reds’ left — at least when not frustratingly cutting inside — but went for the byline on too few occasions. And skipper Gerrard took an age to find his touch and form after his outstanding display at Stamford Bridge three days earlier. Adams opted to use Lassana Diarra in the holding role, yet he was caught flat-footed by one Gerrard surge to the edge of the box, picking up a yellow card for a crude lunge from behind. Liverpool were often bereft of ideas at set pieces.
That, combined with a determination to score the perfect goal, kept Pompey in it for longer than they should have been. Even Jamie Carragher was trying his luck, from all of 30 yards, but straight at keeper James. James again came up trumps to push away another low shot from Gerrard, although it took an alert Pamarot to nick it off Kuyt’s toe. As it was, it was threatening to turn into another 90 minutes of frustration similar to the one which saw them follow victory over Manchester United with a blank against Stoke. Everything is certainly in place for the Reds to at least still be in the hunt come the business end of the season — IF they can finish teams off when they are there for the taking as Pompey were. Mind you, they didn’t enjoy the greatest of fortune either with Arbeloa’s first-time strike from the edge of the box curling just wide.
A Hyypia header from Gerrard’s corner clipped an upright before flying behind — and then a Kuyt shot had half the ground on their feet before they realised it was in the side netting. There was nothing fortunate about Sylvain Distin’s stunning tackle on Yossi Benayoun when Gerrard picked him out 18 minutes from the end. The centre- back flew over to make a crucial challenge.
Yet you sensed it was only a matter of time, and so it proved with Diop’s moment of madness and Gerrard’s clinical despatching from the spot. So a heartbreaking way for Adams’ debut as the new guv’nor to end. You could say it was enough to drive a man to drink ... or at least a strong cup of tea.

Fernando Torres will miss his fourth consecutive Liverpool match when they face Portsmouth as he continues his comeback from a hamstring injury. The Spanish striker had his first training session on Tuesday since picking up the injury on international duty earlier this month. The 24-year-old has a chance of being involved at Spurs on Saturday.
Liverpool have minor problems following Sunday's win at Chelsea, with Robbie Keane still affected by his groin problem. Captain Sol Campbell and full-back Glen Johnson are again both likely to be missing from Portsmouth's line-up as Tony Adams starts his reign.
But fit-again midfielder Niko Kranjcar is likely to get a longer substitute run-out than last Sunday's six minutes against Fulham and Sean Davis provides another midfield option by returning from a one-match suspension.
Campbell missed the draw with Fulham after complaining about tight hamstrings and is still sore while Johnson's pelvic injury makes him a big doubt after missing the last two matches. Younes Kaboul and Noe Pamarot look likely to step into the defensive breach once more but Lassana Diarra has been passed fit despite limping off near the end against Fulham with more knee trouble.
squads Liverpool: Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Agger, Hyypia, Aurelio, Dossena, Babel, Lucas, Mascherano, Gerrard, Benayoun, Alonso, Riera, Keane, Kuyt, Ngog, Pennant, El Zhar, Cavalieri.
Portsmouth: James; Pamarot, Kaboul, Distin, Belhadj, Hreidarsson, Diarra, Diop, Davis, Hughes, A Traore, Crouch, Defoe, Kanu, Utaka, Mvuemba, Kranjcar, Thomas, D Traore, Ashdown.

Legend Of Argentina
BUENOS AIRES, Oct 28 (Reuters) - Diego Maradona said on Tuesday he was on the brink of being named Argentina coach.
Carlos Bilardo, who was in charge of the 1986 World Cup-winning team captained by Maradona, is expected to be part of the two-time world champions' new coaching staff. "It's a bit early for congratulations but it's an idea which seduces me," Maradona told the Fox Sports cable television channel after meeting with Bilardo and Argentina Football Association (AFA) president Julio Grondona.
"We will continue talking tomorrow," he said in a telephone interview. Several television stations and newspaper websites had announced the deal as finalised before Maradona said talks were still continuing. Later, the AFA said on its Web site (http://www.afa.org.ar) the new coach would be officially announced on Nov. 4.
"Next Tuesday, after the meeting of this association's executive committee, the naming of the new technical staff of the national team will be made official," said a statement. The appointment of the explosive Maradona, one of the game's greatest players and also one of its most volatile, would appear to be a huge gamble by the AFA.
Maradona, who since retirement has been treated for drug addiction, obesity and alcohol-induced liver disease, has had only two brief stints as a coach in the 1990s with Deportivo Mandiyu and Racing Club. Both spells were undistinguished. "The idea is to start working immediately after the official announcement with the players who are in Argentina and then take the first plane to talk to the ones in Europe," he said. "He (Grondona) has decided for this project," Maradona told Radio La Red after the meeting. "It appears that Julio never had any other coach in mind."
OTHER CANDIDATES The other candidates for the job were Sergio Batista, coach of the gold medal-winning Argentina team at this year's Beijing Olympics, Carlos Bianchi and Miguel Angel Russo. Maradona, who appears to have been chosen mainly for his motivational powers and the admiration he commands from the players and public, would replace Alfio Basile. Basile quit the day after a 1-0 World Cup qualifying defeat in Chile earlier this month. Other members of the 1986 World Cup team, in which Maradona was at his peak, could be invited to join the technical staff.
Maradona also took part in the 1982, 1990 and 1994 World Cups and was kicked out of the latter after failing a dope test. In 1986, he scored his infamous "Hand of God" goal against England and soon afterwards in the same game produced one of the best goals in the tournament's history with a run from the halfway line in which he eluded the entire opposing defence. Maradona would inherit a team boasting some of the world's most talented players, including Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero, but which has looked strangely short of confidence in recent matches.
Argentina had a run of six consecutive draws and then beat Uruguay before losing to Chile, the first defeat by their neighbours in 35 years. They are third in the 10-team South American World Cup qualifying group with 16 points from 10 games and eight to play. Argentina visit Scotland for a friendly next month while their next qualifier is at home to Venezuela in March.

Benitez : Confident
RAFA BENITEZ has taken Liverpool to the Premier League summit but fears there is no margin for error if they are to stay there.
The Reds took pole position when Sunday’s win at Stamford Bridge sent them three points clear, as well as condemning Chelsea to their first home league defeat in four years. It has got everyone at Anfield daring to dream this could be their year at last and given Benitez the problem he has always wanted — playing down genuine title-challenge talk. Benitez, whose side face Portsmouth led by new boss Tony Adams for the first time tonight, insisted: “It has to be the almost perfect season if we want to be at the top of the table by the end.
“You know Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal won’t lose too many. You can say one might make mistakes, but three of them? I don’t think so. “Chelsea won the title one year with 95 points, so how many do you need — 92, 87? What is clear is you can’t lose many games, which is why it’s so difficult.
“Two or three teams don’t get beaten too often and even if you want to be close you have to be winning a lot in a row. “But we have people on the staff who have won titles — Sammy Lee, Mauricio Pellegrino and me as a manager. “And the players have won the Champions League, which is a massive trophy, so we have the experience.”

ALONSO : The only goal at the Bridge
RAFA BENITEZ’S glowing tribute to his team was halted briefly yesterday as a fire alarm went off in the Chelsea press room. It was quickly stopped but not before alarm bells started ringing round the Premier League that perhaps this could be the season Liverpool end their 19-year quest for the title. For the termination of Chelsea’s 86-match unbeaten League run at Stamford Bridge was no fluke.
Liverpool may have arrived in West London with a desperate record of just one win in 16 at the Bridge since the Premier League started. But you would never have guessed such was the confident way they went about their business.
Benitez’s side was superior to Chelsea in every department, conceding nothing at the back and tearing great holes in the once impenetrable Chelsea defence. In the end, a 3-0 victory would not have flattered them against a Chelsea side who managed just one effort on target — and that no more than a tame Frank Lampard header with just eight minutes to go.
Benitez talked afterwards of what a massive message this was to Liverpool’s title rivals on a weekend where Manchester United also dropped points at Everton. He spoke proudly of his team’s commitment and character and how they could now go to any stadium and get a result.
Sure, there may have been only one goal in it and yet they won with so much to spare you wondered just how Chelsea had remained unbeaten for so long. The Blues, in fact, had not lost at home since goals from Patrick Vieira and Edu gave Arsenal a 2-1 victory on February 21, 2004. A lot has changed in the intervening years.
Leeds United, who drew 1-1 at Old Trafford on the same day, are now in League One. Hull, beaten at home by Torquay in League Two, are now level on 20 points with Chelsea and just three adrift of the new outright leaders. The one thing that hasn’t altered is the hope that springs eternal in the breast of every Liverpool fan that, surely, this is the year the team bring the title back to Anfield for the first time since 1990.

John Barnes : Optimistic
LIVERPOOL legend John Barnes believes his former club have their best chance in years of ending their Stamford Bridge hoodoo tomorrow.
Liverpool have only beaten Chelsea in their own backyard once since last winning the title back in 1990. But Barnes said: "There's every chance that Liverpool can win. "Chelsea will obviously be favourites because they are at home and are on that long unbeaten run, but Liverpool can win, particularly as they are playing with confidence."
Fernando Torres will miss the top-of-the-table game with a hamstring injury, but Liverpool have already proven they are not a two-man team by beating United without either Steven Gerrard or Torres last month, according to Barnes. He said: "After the result against Manchester United, even the fans have the belief in the squad, whether Torres and Gerrard are playing."

11:02 AM

Chelsea should have Ashley Cole back from a hamstring injury. But they are still without Didier Drogba (knee), Michael Ballack (foot), Joe Cole (foot) and Michael Essien (knee).
Liverpool expect Steven Gerrard (fatigue), Robbie Keane (groin) and Xabi Alonso (knee) to be fit. But Fernando Torres is losing his last-ditch battle for fitness following his hamstring injury.
Chelsea squad: Cech, Cudicini, Hilario, Ferreira, Bridge, A Cole, Mikel, Ivanovic, Alex, Terry, Carvalho, Lampard, Sinclair, Mancienne, Belletti, Anelka, Malouda, Stoch, Kalou, Deco, Bosingwa.
Liverpool squad: Reina, Arbeloa, Carragher, Agger, Hyypia, Dossena, Aurelio, Babel, Benayoun, Gerrard, Mascherano, Alonso, Kuyt, Keane, Pennant, Riera, Lucas, Ngog, Cavalieri.

Okt, 24th, under the management of Sahril we went to a Futsal tournament in the capital. 7 players were picked by Sahril using the 'Wira United' as the team's name. 5 points out of possible 15 is not the way we all wanted but it was a fair result since it was the first time for all the 7 players played together. To make matters worse our first choice keeper ( Izzat ) got injured. I thought it was just a minor knock but it turned out to be a shock!!.. He got fractured leg and I guess he'll be out for a few months!..( Mudahan cepat sembuh wang..)

THE heroic national softball team arrived at the Brunei International Airport last night. They returned as champions of the 2008 Malaysian Intranational Open after thrashing Penang Vipers 10-0 during the final."This is indeed a great achievement and now Malaysia knows that we mean business and take softball very seriously,"
Brunei Amateur Softball and Baseball Association (Basba) Secretary General Maj (Rtd) Wan Mohd Tambrin Shah said."After this win we feel we need to aim higher, the plan is to make an impact in the Asia and ASEAN softball scene and that is most likely to happen next year," he added. Before leaving for the four-day tournament that started last Thursday, Wan Mohd Tambrin had said that he was aiming to use the tournament to prove that the sport could bring glory to the country.
"We really hit the ball during the tournament. Our batting was what won us the game and we knew we had to work on that because it had been one of our weaknesses." The Vice President of Basba, Pg Hj Jambul Pg Hj Sulaiman said that the team was not confident when they left as they had little time to practice over the fasting month but they still won."We have proved to ourselves that we are a strong team even with a low confidence level, given more time to practice we are sure to achieve something in the future," Pg Hj Jambul said. "We thank the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports for giving us the approval to participate in this tournament, we hope for their continuous support in the future," he added.

Keane score first blood for Liverpool
RAFA BENITEZ expected to see a few old buddies back in the city where he is viewed as such a hero.
But the Anfield boss did not bank on a couple of Liverpool’s old tormentors returning to wreck the homecoming he had been dreaming of for so long. But that is exactly what happened as Diego Forlan and Simao — players who are not among the list of Anfield’s most popular — combined to spoil the party for Madrid-born Benitez. Six years ago, in his Manchester United days, Forlan left Jerzy Dudek with a face redder than the Kop when he made the keeper look a clown in one Merseyside visit.
And Portugeezer Simao ended Red hopes of a Champions League double 12 months after their incredible 2005 triumph, with a stunning last-16 goal in a Benfica shirt. Last night the two of them were at it again — just as Liverpool were gearing up to celebrate yet another glorious Euro triumph.
Fair enough, a point at one of Europe’s most inhospitable venues is hardly a nightmare. But when you have been in control for so long — as Rafa’s stars were in Madrid — it certainly feels like it. Just seven minutes were left of a game Liverpool should have long put to bed, when the foot they had in the knockout rounds was whipped away. Jamie Carragher was at fault in misjudging little more than a hopeful punt up field, and Forlan pounced to feed Simao. The playmaker’s cross-shot left keeper Pepe Reina with no chance. In fact if it had not been for an outstanding save from Reina, turning another Simao drive against a post, plus an horrendous refereeing clanger, it could have been worse. Only Danish official Klaus Bo Larsen and his linesman can know why they ruled out a Maniche strike for offside when Carragher was playing him on — by at least a yard. But defeat really would have been as unjust as it would have been unpalatable for the five time winners, who left Spain kicking themselves.
Midfielder Yossi Benayoun also had a goal inexplicably disallowed for offside four minutes into the second half. As it was, all they had to show for the trip was Robbie Keane’s 13th-minute opener. And fully deserved it was too, after Liverpool ruthlessly cut the Spaniards to shreds in the opening stages. Things have been going so well for them this season even co-owner George Gillett, a rare viewer, flew in to watch.
And he was quickly on his feet with the other 3,000 travelling fans as Xabi Alonso robbed former Red Florent Sinama-Pongolle and picked out Steven Gerrard. The Reds skipper sliced the backline apart with a marvellous through ball for Keane and the Irishman slid it under keeper Leo Franco. Keane was a hero then but he quickly turned villain. Gerrard whipped in a cross and the Irishman tried a fancy flick and the chance was lost.
The home fans had the eyes of UEFA on them after the unsavoury antics against Marseille and subsequent deferred two-game home Euro ban. Last night they were content to vent their fury on their own powder-puff outfit — up to their late, late leveller at least — and referee Bo Larsen. Mind you, Liverpool had cause to slam the official after he denied them a stonewall penalty on 37 minutes.
Keane poked through for Albert Riera, he stepped past Antonio Lopez and was about to pull the trigger when the left-back sent him tumbling. Penalty. No question about it — to everyone but the official, that is, who promptly booked Riera for diving.
But the ref was consistent. Maniche went down in the box like he had been shot after the faintest of touches from Arbeloa and earned himself a similar yellow card. There was no more than the hint of contact but the Portuguese midfielder threw a dramatic roll that would not have been out of place in the Olympic floor exercises. Reina then turned Simao’s drive against a post before his late heartbreaker. But no-one in their right mind expects this to be anything more than a minor blip for Benitez’s men en route to the last 16.
And after the way they stomped off after blowing the chance to make it a perfect three from three in Group D, leave them out of your list of likely winners at your peril.

Berbatov with a brace
Dimitar Berbatov was delighted with his dubious double as Manchester United recorded a 3-0 Champions League win over Celtic at Old Trafford.
Berbatov scored twice and Wayne Rooney had one disallowed before continuing his prolific form with the third.
Both of Berbatov's close-range efforts looked marginally offside but the Bulgarian said: "It's not my decision to make, I am trying to score, it's for the referee and he said no offside. "It was great for me to score again here and importantly we won the game."
Asked if he felt he was improving as a player since his move from Tottenham, Berbatov added on ITV: "I will improve, that's why I'm here at the biggest club and everything is working right at the moment.
"You must be always 100 per cent in the game and that's what I'm doing, in the past I lacked that in some games." United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was also delighted with Berbatov's performance, adding: "It was fantastic, a marvellous performance again.
"He is bringing that composure to the final third of the field. Hopefully the combination is developing with not only Wayne but also Carlos (Tevez), but he had a little hip injury so we took him off."

Can United survive without their magical winger?
Man Utd Vs Celtic ( ESPN, 2.30am local time )
ALEX FERGUSON will axe Cristiano Ronaldo for the Champions League clash with Celtic. The Manchester United boss fears the winger’s early return from an ankle operation has left him drained.
Fergie said: “The adrenalin can carry you through the one game, but then the form dips a little bit.”
Ronaldo’s body language has not looked right in recent weeks and he did not even bother to celebrate his goal in Saturday’s 4-0 win against West Brom. Ron came back ahead of schedule last month and has started the last five United games plus two internationals.
But Ferguson is ready to bring back Nani in his place tonight after noticing signs of fatigue. The Old Trafford boss added: “When players have been out for so long there is a little response to playing all the time.”
Ronaldo, 23, who wanted to join Real Madrid in the summer, insisted: “I am still young and want to win more trophies.
“I think I am at the right club to do that and I’m certainly playing with the right players.” United’s French left-back Patrice Evra faces a late fitness test on a hamstring injury before the Group E clash.

Kuyt : on the score sheet

LIVERPOOL 3 WIGAN ATH 2

DIRK KUYT'S deadly double dashed Wigan's hopes of a famous win at Anfield. Amr Zaki's incredible season continued when he opened the scoring for the Latics. Dutch ace Kuyt levelled before the Egyptian made it 2-1 with a contender for goal of the season.
But Wigan winger Luis Valencia saw red late on and Albert Riera and Kuyt netted in the final ten minutes for an unlikely comeback win. Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez hailed Kuyt's performance. He said: "We started badly but Kuyt did us proud in this game. "The whole side showed great character to come back like that again. "I felt we won it because we have belief in ourselves and believe that we can win these games. "It is a positive situation for us that we have this level of confidence." Latics boss Steve Bruce blasted referee Alan Wiley for Valencia's red card. He said: "In my opinion we were robbed. "It is a joke that we have not come away from this match with something. "The referee got the first booking for Valencia wrong. "The Liverpool player took the kick and Valencia did not encroach towards it until the ball had been kicked. So he got that one wrong. "Then there is the tackle on Alonso, in which I felt the lad touched the ball. I felt that was harsh. "Those decisions changed the whole course of the game. With 11 against 11 we would not have lost."
Zaki ran Liverpool defenders Jamie Carragher and Agger ragged early on. But both sides were misfiring in front of goal with Robbie Keane guilty of missing the Reds' best chance on 26 minutes. He was made to pay on the half-hour mark when Zaki struck. Agger gifted the ball to the loan star on the edge of the box and he smashed home his sixth goal in just eight matches for the Latics. Wigan had dominated before the goal but Liverpool seemed to come alive after going behind.
Agger quickly made up for his howler when he broke down the left and played in Kuyt to score his first goal at Anfield in 18 months. But on the stroke of half time Zaki's scissor kick stunned Anfield. Valencia's inch-perfect cross was put away in stunning fashion to give Wigan the half-time lead. Liverpool came out fighting in the second period. Kuyt's instant shot from Keane's cross was blocked well by keeper Chris Kirkland. The match was set up for a trademark Steven Gerrard rescue mission. The Liverpool skipper lashed a 30-yarder wide before his side-footed free-kick went just past the post.
The chances of a Kop comeback were boosted when Valencia was shown a second yellow for a reckless challenge on 75 minutes. And it was Riera who levelled the match with 10 minutes to go when his smashed home from 20 yards. Five minutes later, Liverpool's comeback was complete when Kuyt grabbed the winner.

EMILE HESKEY could make a shock return to Liverpool. The England star has admitted he is ready to leave Wigan to pursue Champions League football. Striker Heskey, 30, is out of contract after this season. But Kop boss Rafa Benitez may even bid around £3m to get him in January. The player is not cup-tied for Europe. And after spearheading England’s 3-1 win in Belarus, Heskey admitted his ambition was to play for one of the big four. He said: “I hope there will be a few managers taking notice of me. Everyone wants to be playing on the big stages — for their country and for their club in the Champions League. “But I’m still a Wigan player and want to do my best for them.” Liverpool lack cover for Fernando Torres. And Heskey has impressed Benitez with his power and ability to create chances. He was at Anfield from 2000 to 2004.

Liverpool striker Torres, 24, limped off with a hamstring injury in Spain’s World Cup qualifier in Belgium on Wednesday. He will miss tomorrow’s league clash with Wigan but holds faint hopes of making the trip to former club Atletico Madrid, where he spent 12 years, in the Champions League next Wednesday. Liverpool also face a huge game at Chelsea a week on Sunday.

Soccer: Its Elementary and Its PopularAn object to kick.A foot.A goal.
The elements of soccer are really very simple which is one reason it is the most widely played sport in the world. Unlike basketball, no elevated hoop is necessary. A goal can be as simple as a defined space—the area between two trees or across a line drawn in chalk on a street. Unlike baseball, no equipment beyond a ball is required. Unlike American Football, the rules of soccer are few (17 to be exact) and relatively easy to understand. The roots of soccer can be traced back to the Han Dynasty in second century China. The game tsu chu, or “kicking a ball,” was included in military physical training. An elaborate game of tsu chu was played on the emperor’s birthday. Teams would attempt to kick a feather-filled ball through a small goal that consisted of a net attached to bamboo poles. The stakes were high. Legends say the winners were treated to a feast while the losers were sometimes beheaded. Kemari was played in Japan dating back to the seventh century. In this circular game, players had to pass the ball to each other without letting it touch the ground, similar in some ways to what we call hacky sack or footbag. In 16th century Italy, a game called calico was played on holidays. Teams would gather in the city squares of Florence and Venice and compete in this game that involved kicking as well as handling the ball. Each team had 27 players who wore ornate costumes.

Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso, said : “It’s still difficult to believe what we have done today! Winning in Singapore was unexpected, but we benefited from special conditions. Today we won again on a circuit that was not supposed to suit us. The team has really done a remarkable job to fight back this season and we are now the third strongest team. It’s unbelievable and I am extremely happy this evening. ”
